We would like to update you on the month of November and upcoming events in December for Speech & Debate.
We are proud to say that we had a very successful month; although our largest tournament, SCU Invitational, was postponed to mid-December (Dec 14-16) due to unhealthy air quality. Despite this obvious setback, we still had several practices during the week, indoors to ensure our safety. We also gave out our apparel! Apparel this year was quarterzip sweaters, personalized with students' names on the back.

On December first, many of our novice debaters competed in their first tournament, the CFL Novice Debate at Washington High School.

December second, our students competed at the CFL Speech 2 tournament. This tournament was hosted by EVHS Speech & Debate - proving itself to be a huge success. It ran a half hour ahead of schedule and all classrooms were left cleaner than the way they were found. We also fundraised for our program by selling food to all competitors. This would not have been possible if not for our amazing volunteers and officers who spent the day running around campus to keep the tournament running smoothly. Today (12/3) we also took our yearbook photo during lunch.

As for our plans until the end of the semester, the officers' team primary goal is to set the stage for competitions next semester. We do plan to participate in our school's Winterfest this upcoming Friday - selling flower crowns to hopefully fundraise money for our future endeavors. We also plan to attend the rescheduled SCU on 12/14-12/16. If you plan to compete or judge, you should have received an email confirmation. Furthermore, we plan to hold try-outs for another fundraising event we plan to hold in January - a Speech & Debate showcase. We will also begin interviewing for Public Forum Captains to re-enfranchise the event within the club.

Please let us know by emailing [email protected] if you have any suggestions for fundraising events or anything else you would like to see our team doing. It is your support that keeps our officer team motivated in everything we do for our club.
